More Progress?

Since last time we have mounted the Edelbrock 650 CFM Carburator:

The starter is installed and the wiring harness begins to take shape:

The battery was relocated from here:

To here:

This shows the routing of the (+) battery cable to the battery kill switch:

And finally, more work on the dashboard. Here it is clamped to the workbench:
And this is the back of the dashboard showing some of the wiring installed:

And so I'll sign off 'till next time!

Alternator swap and progress on the dashboard..

This morning.....afternoon....(it was actually yesterday but that's cool, whatever) Jeff and I swapped the stock Hitachi, externally regulated alternator,

with a GM Delco Remy, internally regulated alternator.

This required modifying the alternator mount

by cutting about 1/3 of the forward part of it off and drilling a hole in to accept a 1/2 inch bolt like this

Now, on to the dashboard. The dashboard is rough fitted (rough in every sense of the word, cosmetics come later).

Next: Installing gages, switches, and probably a radio.

Wiring

I mentioned before that I am not a mechanic, and I would not attempt this project without technical (and sometimes physical) assistance from two good friends (who are mechanics), Jerry and Jeff.
And now for the wiring. I am also not an electrician and was totally lost until a Crazy Octopus came to my assistance with a great wiring diagram:
So, armed with this generous help and great info, I press on.
Next: Building a dashboard.

Here we go again!

After many starts and stops, I am once again trying to rebuild my 1973 Datsun 240Z. This is what it looks like now:
The interior is gutted:
The engine is an L26 from a 1974 260Z. I have installed an intake manifold for a four barrel carburator and a header.
I obviously have much work to do. So if you want to see if someone who is not a mechanic can rebuild a car, check back often.
